Change Of Scene = Change Of Energy?
For a while now I haven't done any uni work. None. Zilch. Zero.
I haven't been to lectures, haven't been to seminars, haven't been doing the reading or even catching up online. There is a new online attendance system at my uni and my attendance is 23.3%. Sadly, I surprised it's even that high. Trying to do work in my room led to me procrastinating by cleaning or tidying my room so I tried doing work in my kitchen. The kitchen was always too cold and there was always one of my flatmates coming in to cook or something so I tried going to the library. But in the library the group work floor was too loud and the silent floor was too quiet. So, I ignored my uni work and went back to watching films every night and just pretending that the work wasn't piling up.
Over the weekend I decided to give an old tactic a try. Back home in London, if I was stuck in a rut and nothing was going right I'd go to Soho or Shoreditch or any area filled with creatives and find a little coffee shop to do work in. The change of scenery combined with a pot of tea was always exactly what the doctor ordered. My motivation and creativity would return and I'd get stuff done. But I didn't know where my fab little coffee shop parallels were in Birmingham. In typical Jade fashion I did what I do best: research.
After a quick Google and a look at reviews I found one a short walk from home and decided to go there on Monday and start my week right. Of course all these plans were made before heavy snow descended on Birmingham and anywhere north of London. However, I was determined to get work done. So I slipped, slid and practically ice-skated all the way to the coffee shop, the place where all my motivation problems would be solved.
Were my expectations met? Yes and no. The shop was lovely, warm and cosy. The Earl Grey was loose leaf and served in a cute little teapot. Honestly, it's amazing how something as small as a change of location can have such a large effect on how you feel. However, Rome wasn't built in a day. Econometrics is still long and confusing. Trying to watch 10 weeks of lectures all at once was never going to be easy. After an hour of watching a lecture I had a phone break, read a chapter of Americanah and never got back to work. But, I did more work than I've done in a while and I'll definitely keep going back. So, as per usual I'm a work in process not the finished product…yet. Hopefully as I keep going for the rest of the week it'll get easier.
So, if you're feeling unmotivated try a change of scene…hope this works for you

Side Note: still working on how to sign off, not sure how I feel about the kisses
