Catch Flights Not Feelings
So with this whole relaunching my blog, it's got me setting my goals for 2018.
Generally I'm very against New Years' resolutions, I usually lose the scrap piece of paper I write them on and I change so much during the year they're usually outdated by March. So this year I wrote New Years' resolutions for every new year for me. Let me explain.
So I wrote resolutions in January, goals that I wanted to achieve before I turned 19. In March right before my birthday I wrote resolutions again, things I wanted to achieve before the end of the school year. Then the end of the school year marked a new summer, so I wrote a list of everything I wanted to do that summer. These were less goals and more a list of restaurants to eat at and holidays I wanted to go on. In September when I started uni again I wrote a list of things I wanted to achieve this academic year. I know this seems long winded but honestly I've found it more effective.
Ok, so back to now. One constant in every January resolution list is travelling. I absolutely love to travel. I've been fortunate enough to visit a variety of countries and I'm only 19 but there are so many more cities, countrysides, sites I need to see. My aim is to go to 30 countries by 30. I'm 19 and I've been to 9 different countries so I need to visit an average of 2 countries per year to meet my goal. These holidays have ranged from party islands and family resorts but my favourite trip was an exchange programme to Dehli, India with days trips to other cities. As I was staying with an Indian girl my age and her family it was the first time I actually got to see the real version of a country albeit through the lens of a wealthy family. It was the first time the only British people I knew were the people I came with. Yes it was new but it was refreshing.
This year my travel goals are a bit different I want to conquer my fear and go on my first solo trip. Initially I was thinking of Goa, India since I loved India so much the first time but after looking at my budget I've decided to start somewhere closer to home. As this needs to be done before I turn 20 and I want to be realistic so it's probably going to happen right before my birthday, for a long weekend. I've travelled without my family before and I'm usually in charge of organising family holidays because my mum finds it too stressful so the planning side doesn't scare me. To be honest I think I'm more excited than scared, the kind of nervous excitement you get on rollercoasters.
