My Not So Little Baby Sister

Hey it's me again: Jade,

Anyway, I've got one younger sister and she just finished her GCSEs. She decided that she wanted me to go with her to pick up her results instead of our mum. Even though mum was upset, she agreed so my sister and I went to pick up her results.

On the way back I realised that my baby sister isn't a baby anymore. She's 16 with opinions and views and a life. She's got secrets, knows how to not blurt things out and doesn't find boys icky. She still steals my stuff but now they actually look good on her because she's got the body to fill them out. It's mad!

When? How? What?

Last time I checked she still hadn't grown her front two teeth and was begging to wear a bra and stay up late. Now she leaves the house and comes back at midnight. She had life goals and it's weird.

The terms and conditions of our relationship has changed. It's less me leading her through life and closer to us learning things together.

For people who know me well, you guys know my favourite genre of music is jazz. While I do enjoy rap, grime, rnb and other more popular genres, jazz has my heart. But my sister is obsessed with grime and drill music, so often I'll hear music on a night out (because haven't found a popping jazz club yet) and have no idea who it's by etc and have to ask my sister. Even though she rolls her eyes and compares me to our mum who's still stuck in the 80s and 90s, she teaches me who's popular and the bars so I don't look like a complete idiot when everyone's spitting SL's Gentlemen and I'm just nodding. So here's another change in our relationship: she's now teaching me and that's extra weird.

With her changing and therefore our relationship changing I've got no choice but to change with her. I can no longer call her an idiot and expect to cry to mum because she'll just shout back at me. Yes, she still respects me and yes, she still looks up to me but now I also respect her. I can now ask her opinion, trust and respect. Currently only with relatively trivial things such as popular culture and how my makeup looks but I won't be surprised if this time next year she'll be helping me make important decisions.
Are we best friends? No.
Is she still annoying? Definitely.
Is she still obsessed with Phineas and Ferb? KMT at her big age yes.

But she's my sister and I love her.
